Spring Term 2

A refugee fairytale.

Two children are in a boat.

They play. They laugh. They argue.

They dream of catching a fish so big it will capsize the boat. Of encountering a mermaid who will sing them the most beautiful melodies. Of lassoing a whale who will pull them to shore, to a new land of thick green grass and endless blue skies. A safe land.

Adrift is a brand new play from Beverley Hancock-Smith, developed by acclaimed children’s theatre company Action Transport Theatre, created in partnership with St. Bernard’s RC Primary School.

Adrift brings together the celebrated company behind the critically acclaimed STATIk and Happily Ever After with international mime and physical theatre artists Vini Carvalho (Brazil) and Carmen Arquelladas (Spain), original music from Patrick Dineen (Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf, Happily Ever After) and enchanting design from Lois Maskell (The Mighty Boosh).

Told with tenderness, humour and ATT’s signature visual storytelling, Adrift is a celebration of the resilience and imagination of childhood.

Our working text, this half term is The Adrift project. We will be looking at the story of Malala, our class book will be Malala's Magic Pencil. We will also be using BBC animations such as Ali's story.

We have our new homework system in place! The system works on alternate weeks, on specific weeks the children will complete Mathletics tasks, set by myself, relating to the Maths we have worked on in class. On the other weeks, the children will be able to choose an activity from the 8 we have provided, to complete! These relate to our work in class, it could be creating an eBook, presentation, poem, or carrying out a Science investigation!

- Reading at home should be done as frequently as possible. Children should bring their reading book and reading record to school every day and take them home each night. I will be checking their reading logs.

-Bug Club is an exciting online reading resource with interesting books and reading activities. Your child knows their password and how to use the different resources on there.

- Mathletics is updated regularly with tasks. Children know their login username and passwords but can check with me. They should login and complete their assigned tasks before progressing on to Live Mathletics...let's see how many points we can get! Click on the logo to go there now!

We have started to use Times Table Rockstar!

A fantastic app/ website that lets us battle each other and test our times table knowledge, each child has been given their own individual login and can play individual games and try to beat their score or challenege others from all over the world in a safe environment. This has had a positive impact on our times table knowledge in school.

Our class need their PE kit in every Monday for Gymnastics.

- Brass and woodwind lessons will take place every Thursday. Please ensure your child is practising and bringing their instruments in on the correct day.

-Please make sure your child's school clothes and equipment is clearly labelled to avoid loss.  This includes jumpers, cardigans, PE kits, lunch bags and purses or any pencil cases brought into school.
