Spring Term

Welcome to Cedar class spring term! We have some exciting activities planned for the spring and new books to inspire our children. We are beginning with two very different but extremely interesting books. One is called 'Leon and the Place Between' and tells the story of a young boys adventure at a circus. The second is a play called 'The Head in the Sand' and features a Roman statue. We will focus on Leon for our English work with the Romans being the focus of our foundation subjects.

We began the topic with some fantastic art work linked to Roman mosaics. The children used clay to make tiles which we will paint and then glue into a range of patterns. Watch this space for the final product!

Autumn Term in Cedar Class

Our Fantastic Forest Display

This year we are creating an autumnal forest outside of our classroom. The children have used mixed media collage to create 3D trees. We had a lot of fun using sun set colours to paint the autumn leaves.

 Useful Information

  • Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be handed in by Tuesday. A sheet in your child's book will provide an outline of what homework is expected each week.

  • Please remember to encourage your children to continue working on mathletics and their times tables throughout the week. Times tables tests take place on a Friday morning.

  • All children will need the correct PE kit and trainers/pumps for their PE lessons which will now take place on a Wednesday. However, please ensure children always have kit in school in case there is a change of day or an extra session. Swimming begins after the February half term. More information will follow.

Reading books and reading records should be brought to school everyday. Please try to listen to your child at home as frequently as possible. The children also each have a Bug Club user ID and password allocated to them where they can read books online. This also enables them to answer interactive comprehension questions which will develop their reading skills further.

The knowledge of the times tables are of high importance to help with other aspects of Maths. Your child will have a weekly times table test. Please ask your child which times table they are currently working on and test away! Let's see whether they can reach the Gold times table challenge or beyond!
